Dear Friends and Neighbors of Humboldt County,
Greetings from Humboldt County! We hope this message finds you well as we continue to cherish the beauty and close-knit spirit of our unique rural communities along California's northern coast. Today, I’m reaching out to discuss an exciting and essential initiative that is gaining momentum in our area: Community Schools.
Our Unique Landscape
Humboldt County is a region known for its breathtaking natural beauty and cultural richness. We are fortunate to live among towering redwoods, rolling hills, and stunning coastlines. Our communities are connected not only by geography but by a shared commitment to preserving our environment, honoring our diverse heritage, and ensuring that future generations are equipped to thrive here.
The Community Schools Landscape in Humboldt County
In recent years, we have been working diligently to support the overall well-being of our students and their families through Community Schools. This model allows us to build stronger bridges between our schools, families, and community resources, ensuring that every child can reach their full potential. In Humboldt County, we are proud to have several school districts actively engaged in the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP). Through this initiative, we are deepening our commitment to:
- Offering integrated student supports that address barriers to learning outside of the classroom.
- Expanding learning opportunities and enriching educational experiences for all students.
- Engaging families and community members as essential partners in the education process.
- Collaborating with local organizations to provide vital services and holistic support to students and their families.
Our Strengths and Successes
We are excited to share some of the strengths and bright spots of our Community Schools efforts:
- Cultural and Environmental Stewardship: Humboldt’s schools reflect the rich cultural diversity of our communities, including our Native American heritage and traditions. We are finding new ways to integrate environmental education, teaching students about the unique ecosystems they live in and how to become responsible stewards of our land.
- Community Collaboration: Our schools are dedicated to building strong partnerships with local families, tribal nations, and community organizations, ensuring that education is a shared effort that extends far beyond the classroom.
- Outdoor Education: With our proximity to nature, we are using the outdoors as an extension of the classroom, connecting students to hands-on learning experiences that foster both academic growth and a love for the environment.
An Invitation to Connect
We believe that by working together, we can create a strong network of Community Schools across Humboldt County and Northern California. We invite you to join us in this important work:
- Share your experiences and insights on Community Schools initiatives.
- Explore opportunities for partnerships within our communities.
- Collaborate on grants and resource-sharing to strengthen our programs.
- Participate in regional events and workshops to support the growth of Community Schools.
Let’s build on the strength of our rural communities, our shared values, and our deep connection to the land. Together, we can ensure that all of our students and families are well-supported and have the opportunities they deserve to succeed.
If you have any questions, ideas, or would like to discuss potential collaborations, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to connecting with you and building a brighter future for Community Schools in Humboldt County and beyond.
Warm regards,
Felicia Doherty
