Dear Shasta County Community and Families,

We are excited to welcome you to a new year of collaboration and support through the Community Schools lens, supported in part by a five-year grant funded by the California Department of Education (CDE). This grant empowers schools to build on existing strengths and address the unique needs of our students, families, and staff. Through the Shasta County Office of Education (SCOE) Community Schools Consortium, we are committed to strengthening our educational communities and providing comprehensive support for everyone.

What Are Community Schools?

Community schools are public schools that create a strong partnership with families and local organizations. This model is built on four core pillars: integrated student supports, expanded learning opportunities, active family and community engagement, and collaborative leadership. These pillars work together to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and socially.

Our focus areas within the consortium will continue to be shaped by the specific needs of each school site. This could include, but is not limited to, academic and social supports, staff development, improved engagement strategies for students and families, and increased access to community resources. The beauty of this model is that no two community schools are exactly alike, as each one reflects the unique needs, strengths, and priorities of its local community.

Community Connect vs. Community Schools

It's easy to get these two confused, but they have distinct roles. Community Schools are the overarching framework, a school-wide strategy for creating a supportive environment. A key component of the SCOE consortium's Community Schools is the Community Connect Coordinator. This individual, who is stationed at each funded school site, acts as a dedicated resource to help families navigate needs that fall outside the traditional school setting. They use the Community Connect program model to link families with essential community resources.

  • Bonny View Elementary, Burney Elementary, Burney Jr/Sr High, Excel Academy, Fall River, Gateway Educational Options, Mountain Lakes High School, Mistletoe, Parsons, Pioneer High School, Shasta County Independent Study, Shasta Lake School, Tri Mountain Academy
• Cohort 3: 2024-2029
  • Redding Achieve Community Day

Please note: Some of the information we provide about services at Community Schools applies only to those within the SCOE consortium. For more detailed information around unique and impactful supports within our partnering community schools in Shasta County, such as those in the Columbia School District Consortium or our independent grantee CHYBA, please contact them directly, and they would be happy to share!
